ABOUT THE POSTION:

The CAD programmer is responsible for understanding the layouts of steel designs and translating them into machinery language for high volume production. The ideal candidate will have experience preparing detailed working diagrams, including dimensions, fastening methods and other engineering information. They will also ensure all work is done on time.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of CAD-CAM systems, including use and operational procedures.

  • Apply strong understanding of manufacturing products, design requirements, and industry terminology.

  • Read and interpret engineering documents, blueprints, and related technical data.

  • Utilize knowledge of G-Codes and M-Codes to develop or adjust cutting programs.

  • Work independently and exercise discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.

  • Maintain accurate records, files, and logs; prepare required reports.

  • Sustain strong attention to detail for extended periods, with high visual acuity and manual dexterity.

  • Ensure a high degree of accuracy; multitask effectively while maintaining precision.

  • Review, edit, and proof own work to detect errors and take corrective action to prevent material loss, production delays, rework costs, and quality issues.

  • Follow established procedures and job parameters while using sound judgment to meet goals.

  • Independently schedule programs on the appropriate cutting machines in the correct priority order based on production due dates.

  • Solve problems and exercise creativity and resourcefulness in daily tasks, decision-making, and schedule planning.

  • Maintain strong judgment and initiative to ensure accuracy, productivity, and workflow efficiency.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of manufacturing experience required.

  • Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ability to create CNC cutting programs from customer drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to read, understand, and work from detailed drawings, rough sketches, notes, and conceptual information.

  • Strong ability to review and interpret blueprints to verify cutting parameters, dimensions, and tolerances.

  • Experience validating work orders and CNC programs; ability to identify and correct errors or missing data.

  • Ability to modify computer drawings per customer or internal requests (bending, beveling, machining, welding, cutting, etc.).

  • Knowledge of nesting parts in CAM systems to maximize material usage.

  • Ability to provide templates for beveling, bending, machining, and jigs for welding.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including report creation.

  • Understanding of production due dates and the ability to prioritize programming accordingly.

  • Ability to coordinate with production and sales teams for required inspections.

  • Ability to assist the Quality Control Manager when needed.

  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints.

  • Must maintain organized files, logs, and documentation.

  • Must follow company safety policies and maintain good housekeeping.

  • Ability to support shop personnel with interpretation of drawings and specifications.
