ABOUT THE POSITION:

We are seeking a reliable  Slitter Operator to join our company. This is a steel production equipment operator position responsible for properly reading and executing work orders to timely meet customer requirements. This non-exempt (hourly) position typically reports directly to the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager and has no supervisory responsibilities. The position requires working in accordance with Triple-S Steel job requirements and Safe Methods of Work. Overtime hours may be required to meet our customers’ needs.

Responsibilities

 

  • Follow Triple-S safe methods of work at all times, and immediately advise supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
  • Responsible for the processing and slitting of various types of steel coils
  • Must be able to complete a setup on the slitter arbor
  • Must know how to use measuring tools such as micrometer, caliper and tape measuring
  • Inspect all material for any imperfections, verifies dimensions and material types
  • Must be able to read/write English
  • Responsible for accurately following instructions given to them by each individual order that is written up for each machine
  • Ensure prime quality material being produced
  • Lead a crew of 5 or more and supervise their daily responsibilities
  • Must be a leader and work as a team
  • Must follow all company policies and procedures
  • Must report any injuries regarding himself or his crew
  • Create accurate reports and be able to properly record notes for all orders that they process
  • Must be able to properly communicate any and all issues to upper management as well as to his crew
  • Maintain a clean and productive work area
  • Must know how to use measuring tools such as micrometer, caliper and tape measurement
  • Must know the different types of material, gages and sizes

 

 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to correctly read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
  • Ability to safely meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision; work alone and in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • May be required to demonstrate strong customer relations skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use hands/fingers to handle, or feel and talk or hear
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
