ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Sales Manager is responsible for the development and performance of all retail steel sales activities in the assigned market including; overseeing the sales team, distributing and controlling prospects, monitoring sales pipelines, implementing individual and team goals, managing budgets, retaining morale, hiring and firing personnel, and communicating with other departments. Staffs and directs both inside and outside sales teams and provides leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company vision and values. Establishes specific plans and strategies to maximize the company’s market share at its existing customer base and expand the customer base in the marketing area.

Compensation Range: $60,000 to $80,000

Responsibilities

  • Develops a business plan and sales strategy for the market that ensures attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
  • Creates and implements monthly sales budgets based on the approved forecast.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing plans as needed.
  • Manages commission plans and routinely reviews for effectiveness. Makes recommendations to senior management for changes.
  • Provides timely, accurate, competitive pricing on all products through formalized pricing policies, while striving to maintain maximum profit margin. Factors in the policy should include size of order, freight cost, processing, customer potential, etc.
  • Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service and monitors such performance. Produces internal reports indicating progress in this area.
  • Oversee the stocking and merchandising of all retail store products and displays.
  • Works with purchasing team for inventory replenishment and management. 
  • Develops specific action plans on idle/inactive inventory through special incentive plans and/or customer promotions.
  • Ensures sales order entries within company ERP are consistent within regulated polices to ensure best operational performance and accurate accounting.
  • Ensures guidelines and policies related to RMAs are clear and enforced.
  • Personally manage a minimum of 5 target accounts generating a minimum of $50,000 in sales per month.
  • Regularly dialogues with counterparts at other Triple-S Steel facilities to ensure consistent pricing occurs where customers overlap.
  • Represent company at trade association meetings to promote products.
  • Manages cash and credit payments. Oversees reconciliation and banking of monies received. Managers petty cash fund and change bag for cash tills. 
  • Manages expense budgets with Account Executives to ensure appropriateness and effectiveness with the customers.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
  • Recruits, tests, and hires Account Executives based on criteria agreed upon by senior management.
  • Responsible for the performance and development of the Account Executives.
  • Routinely reassigns underperforming accounts after Account Executives exhaust all opportunities.
  • Prepares action plans by individuals as well as by team for effective search of sales leads and prospects.
  • Provides timely feedback to senior management regarding performance of the Account Executives.
  • Conducts one-on-one review with all Account Executives to build more effective communications, to understand training and development needs, and to provide insight for the improvement of Account Executive’s sales and activity performance.
  • Maintains accurate records of all pricings, sales, and activity reports submitted by Account Executives.

PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; employee development; Planning, assigning and directing work; Appraising performance; Employee recognition; Corrective actions; Addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develops skills through effective management coaching.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University with 5+ years related work experience in sales management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five plus years of proven senior level managerial experience, managing multiple direct reports.
  • Structural steel sales and/or industrial sales is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of Customer Relationship Management.
  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements.
  • Proven leadership and ability to drive sales teams.
  • Strong analytical & communication skills; written, oral and inter-personal.
  • Basic mathematics and computer skills (Microsoft Office Products).
