Overview

The Traffic Supervisor will ensure safety as his/her number one priority. He/she supervises the shipping office personnel as well as all company drivers. This position will also oversee fleet maintenance/management and DOT safety compliance. He/she will also ensure all record keeping is pursuant to the standards of Triple-S.  The role also encompasses cost saving measures using metrics and analysis to better use all Triple-S Steel resources with the General Manager and Operations Team 

Responsibilities

• Manages safety and performance expectations of Richmond area Traffic Team.
• Schedules, assigns, and directs drivers and vehicles to transport steel and coordinates drivers according to customer requests in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
• Communicates with Sales Team and customers to determine driver needs and schedules and notifies drivers of assignments; enters assignment data in computer database.
• Assists with reviews and disciplinary action of drivers.
• Monitors daily maintenance inspection reports of all units and promptly addresses and prioritizes repairs based on critical safety issues.
• Manages DOT driver and maintenance files per DOT regulations and company policies.
• Stays in tune with current best practices and helps improve fleet performance.
• Ensures common carriers are properly vetted and in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies.
• Manages daily routing and routing compliance of deliveries and pick-ups in the Richmond area.
• Ensures drivers follow all DOT regulations and Company policies.
• Ensures Traffic Team is properly utilizing all resources to assign and direct company drivers and common carriers each day.
• Schedule preventive maintenance on all company owned and purchase lease delivery equipment in fleet.
• Maintain tire replacement log that tracks usage, track all casings and inventory monthly all recaps in inventory.
• Monitor weekly fuel usage and on-site fueling ensure it correlates with MPG.
• Monitor and recommend Over Time reductions.
• Project Management such as pallet recycling program at Richmond.
• Routinely check in with the drivers for updates and to assess progress/morale.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 4-year degree related to Logistics and Distribution and/or 3 years of prior fleet dispatch/management experience.
  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures with multiple distribution centers.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required so that we meet customer expectations.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Skills:

  • Experience with Road-net, E-logs, Fleetmatics, and Geotab software a plus
  • Experience in flatbed operations a plus
  • Experience with INVEX, StelPlan (or other ERP/WMS platforms) and Roadnet a plus.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT compliance items
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of management and all colleagues.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work “off schedule” on occasion.
  • Highly organized individual with a commitment to consistent attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to assume additional responsibilities and accommodate customer requests.
  • Ability to work independently, often under pressure/situations within a team environment.
